The 100 Thing Challenge
Book Review
In January 2011, I read The 100 Thing Challenge by Dave Bruno. I highly recommend reading the book if you are looking to simplify your life. Many of us have different reasons for doing so.
Personally, I had been toying around with the idea of scaling back my possessions to only the necessary. And then I found this book.
Dave created a challenge for himself. Could he survive a year on only 100 items or less? He created various rules and restrictions towards the goal. For example, there were guidelines on buying new purchases.
You get the idea.
I’ve been pruning and its helped. Less clutter is good for the soul. Read this book, watch a good three episodes of Hoarders and you will be spring cleaning in no time.
To me, the biggest lesson I took away from the read was: Quality not quantity. For instance, since reading, I have found a washing machine that can also dry your clothes. This now excites me and I plan on obtaining one in the future.
Read it for the story, the life adventure, and the challenges that he faced along the way. You may find a lot of parallels with your life in the process of doing so.
