Lessons Learned

It’s been 10 years since my last post on this blog — under this domain: evenpace. There are many, many unspoken reasons why this is the case. However, as Confucius said:

It does not matter how slow you go so long as you do not stop.

I really never stopped, and have a ton of material written away in an off-line journal to reference and refer to for more posts going forward. I’ve also been consolidating posts from my personal blog and bringing them into this one.

Two years ago, I was formally diagnosed as neurodivergent. Looking back at these posts from a decade ago, I see so much of what I was struggling with, adapting to, and learning was due to my neurodivergence.

Data Problem

Never store all of your data in the cloud. Always have offline and online backups.

In the case of this blog, I thought I was being smart and effecient by writing the posts in Wordpress as drafts and then publishing them. However, due to time blindness and forgetfulness, I let the domain and hosting expire and as a result, so did the content. Thankfully, the Wayback machine exists, and now 10 years later, I’ve restored the original published posts as they were.

Data Solution

This time, I’m using an awesome service called Blot.im. You put files in a folder, and then it turns those files into blog posts. It supports text files, images, word documents, bookmarks, and html files. You can store and sync them from Dropbox, Git repository, or Google Drive. Personally, I’m writing Markdown text files and syncing them. The text editor that I’m currently using is Byword. I can write posts using that app from my Mac, iPad, or iPhone and everything syncs.

Looking foward to the next 10 years. Let’s go!
